1. What is the definition of Address Admail?

Address Admail is promotional in nature and includes items that:

  • Promote the sale or use of products or services
  • Report on financial performance, primarily for promotional purposes
  • Solicit donations or contributions
  • Deliver a uniform message
  • Have acceptable return addresses
  • Are a minimum of 1,000 pieces

Examples:

  • Financial performance reports
  • Catalogues
  • Soliciting donations or contributions
  • Newsletters


2. What are the qualifications for Publication Mail?

Publication Mail includes newspapers and periodicals produced specifically to disseminate any or more of the following to the public:

  • News
  • Articles commenting on or providing an analysis of the news
  • Articles currently of interest to the general public, primarily devoted to one or more of the following: articleson agriculture, fishery, forestry, religion, science, public health, social or literary criticism; reviews of literature or the arts; or academic or scholarly writings
  • Articles currently of interest to a membership, special interest group or association

Publication Mail must also be:

  • Prepared for mailing according to the requirements set out in the Canada Postal Guide
  • Produced at least twice a year
  • Mailed in Canada for delivery within Canada
  • Addressed to a subscriber, non-subscriber or news dealer in Canada
  • Produced with less than 70 percent space devoted to advertising in more than 50 percent of the issues in any 12-month period (advertising and editorial content must be distinguishable from one another)
  • Under a valid agreement number and if applicable, a registration number


3. What are the Physical Criteria for Publication Mail?

Maximum Sizes:

  • Roll Form – length + 2 x diameter: 1040 mm / greatest dimension: 900 mm
  • Per folded newspaper – 362 mm x 279 mm x 162 mm

Minimum Sizes:

  • 140 mm x 90 mm x 0.18 mm

Maximum Weight:

  • 1.36 kg

4. How do you apply for Publication Mail?

You can apply for Publication Mail by:

  • Contacting your local Canada Post representative or your Publication Mail coordinator
  • Completing the agreement activation form – Publication Mail and a credit application form (if necessary)
  • Submitting the form(s) to your local Canada Post representative or Publication Mail coordinator. Include a copy of a current issue of your publication prepared as if it were ready to be mailed. If your publication is produced in a language other than English or French, include a translation of the masthead of at least two main articles.

Upon receiving a completed agreement activation form, a sample copy of your publication and approval of your credit application (if applicable), Canada Post will determine if you can mail the publication using Publication Mail.

Upon approval from Canada Post, you will receive an agreement number that must be printed on one of the first five or last five pages of your publication (whether in the masthead or not) and on all Publication Mail statements of mailing.

If you are eligible for a subsidy through the Publications Assistance Program, you will receive a registration number from the Department of Canadian Heritage, which must also be printed on one of the first five or last five pages of your publication (whether in the masthead or not) and on all Publication Mail statements of mailing.

Canada Post will then return a signed copy of the agreement activation form to you.

1. What are the requirements for US mailing sorting?

If your mail meets the United States Postal Service physical criteria and consists of a minimum of 200 pieces, your mail will be pre-sorted according to US post regulation so you receive the least expensive rate.


2. What are the Physical Criteria for US Mail?

Regular Size:

  • Minimum – (H) 3 ½" x (H) 5" x (T) 0.007"
  • Maximum – (H) 6 1/8" x (H) 11 ½" x (T) 1/4"

Oversize:

  • Minimum – (H) 6 1/8" x (H) 11 ½" x (T) 1/4"
  • Maximum – (H) 11 3/4" x (H) 14" x (T) 3/4"
